Day 04: Deepor Bil, Nabagraha Temple, Tirupati Balaji, state Emporiums.
Irene was feeling religious and while I slept, she took off early in the
morning for a Local Church- heading straightaway for the morning
mass at the sprawling Pan Bazar Church. It was from here, the
Christian missionaries preached the message of love to the hill people &
showed them light to the civilized world. Later, she went to Naba Graha
Temple. Situated atop Chitrachal Hills this "Temple of Nine
planets" was a great centre for the study of Astrology and
Astronomy.
We started our day's exploration with a visit to Deepor Bil, a
large natural wetland. It is the state's first Bird Sanctuary on the
outskirts of the city. We could see a variety of local and migratory birds,
flocking the trees around.
On return, we visited the Tirupati Balaji Temple, a recently done
Temple of lord Balaji. A favorite amongst the locals, it is beautifully
carved out of white marble stones with striking South Indian architecture.
Its a nice place for a day out and on a holiday, we could make a lot of
local friends here.
